Suzanne Archer at Blacktown Arts Centre: Drawn to Form: The Matter in Hand
Drawn to Form: The Matter in Hand
22 August - 3 October, 2015
Drawn to Form: The Matter in Hand explores the relationship between drawing and ceramics. It investigates how drawing and ceramic art in Australia inform and are exposed to each other, as creative processes and as new forms of art-making. The exhibition includes new ceramics, drawings, performance, installation and video work.
Curated by Merran Esson (Head of Ceramics, National Art School, Sydney) and Abdullah M.I. Syed (artist and curator). The exhibition features artwork by Suzanne Archer, Walter Auer, Emma Fielden, Janet Fieldhouse, Juz Kitson, Jude Rae, Tania Rollond, Abdullah M.I. Syed, Kei Takemura and Toni Warburton.
In partnership with the National Art School (Ceramics Department) and Parramatta Artists Studios. Sponsored by Nomura Foundation and Pola Art Foundation, Japan.
Public Program
The Drawn to Form program features a series of workshops by international artist-in-residence Kei Takemura. You are invited to bring in broken or chipped ceramic objects which hold special meaning to you, and Kei will transform the object through a process she calls ‘an act of mending wounds and preservation of beauty’. Toni Warburton will present a thrown clay performance in the Blacktown Arts Centre carpark, and guest curators Merran Esson and Abdullah M.I. Syed will introduce the artists' talks.
